BRYAN HOOVER SHARES HIS WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY AND HOW HE LOST 60 LBS in 6 MONTHS!
What made you decide to change?
I have struggled with my weight since I quit smoking over 10 years ago. Prior to that, I had never been overweight a day in my life. Over the past 10 plus years, I have tried several fad diets, took up biking and even tried P90X for 2 months in 2010. At times some of those things worked. But for some reason or another, I would always stop taking care of my body. Most of the time, it was because I lacked knowledge and support. I wasn’t doing the right things. My body was tired and overweight and I thought to myself… maybe it was just going to be this way from now on as a byproduct of getting older. I still had a little voice inside tell me it didn’t have to be this way and I knew something had to change!
Some days I felt like I was going to die and felt frequent chest pains and tightness. I also had to have a beer or two every day, because my body craved it. One day, at 225 lbs, I just said that enough was enough and I was going to do something about it. I knew there was a problem and I somewhat knew how to fix it, but I wasn’t sure it I had the motivation and will power to keep going!
The most important thing in my life NOW is to know that I will be around for my little girls Madison (7) and Kaylee (4) as they grow up. Not too long ago, I wasn’t so sure that was going to be the case.
What have been your results so far (include mention of medications)?
When I started working out and eating better, I was determined to make this time different. There definitely were days when I did not want to work out, and could come up with plenty of excuses like, it was too late at night or I am traveling for work so it doesn’t count…but somehow I persevered and completed my daily workout. I have worked out at midnight, at 5 in the morning, in a hotel in Toronto Canada and in a hotel in Tampa Florida, etc… I pushed through even when I didn’t have the energy, motivation or inspiration to and that’s what’s made all the difference!
6 months ago, I weighed 225 lbs and I had high cholesterol, high blood pressure, high triglycerides, and I struggled with plantar fasciitis and sleep apnea.
Today, I weigh 163 lbs, and I’m thrilled to tell you I just got back from the doctor and he took me off the following medications—Blood Pressure, Cholesterol and Aspirin. I also no longer have pain in my feet and my sleep apnea machine isn’t picking up much! I am in the best shape I have been since my late teens! It feels amazing, but more that, I am proud of myself that I stuck to it; that no matter what, I completed the workouts every day. I did not miss a day. I didn’t make excuses, I did not quit. At times, my mind wanted to quit. I thought to myself, let’s just skip tonight, it is already 11:00 PM and I would rather be in bed. Then I would say to myself… you have a goal to achieve…Do Not Let Yourself Down!
Amazing things can happen when you put your mind to it and accomplish a goal!!
Losing 60lbs in 6 months is literally life changing!!! I also went from 35% body fat to 18% body fat and working my way down to 10% body fat… and no, I am not just wasting away to skin and bones. I am replacing the fat with lean muscle mass.
My new lifestyle also cured my desire for alcohol! I couldn’t go a day without thinking about grabbing a beer. Now when I think about beer, sugar, soda, cookies, candy, cake, pizza… I think to myself that I do not need it and I do not want it. I keep track of everything that I put into my body. Thanks to Team Beachbody for giving me the inspiration, support and tools to make all of this happen!
What programs/supplements have you been using?
After starting Shakeology, I noticed some truly amazing things. The first is that I started to feel better. I looked forward to my Shakeology everyday because it helped with the cravings. Not only is it the most nutritious meal of the day, but it is my best-tasting meal of the day. I have much more energy after starting Shakeology, I sleep better at night and I just feel very good all over. Several people have commented that I look healthier as well.
This supplement not only tastes pretty good and quenches my thirst during my INSANITY workout, but it also helps me to not be sore the next day. I guarantee you that what I am putting my body through, I should be very sore each day after my work out. But I am not!!!
Prior to a workout, I take the Energy and Endurance formula and it helps me improve my performance. I never drank coffee and used to drink a lot of tea. If I am feeling sluggish now, I just take a little E&E and get ready to begin my workout.

How has it helped you having a coach / being a part of a team of support?
David Ingram has been very helpful in my fitness journey. Just hearing his story, following his daily posts on Facebook and learning from him made me a better participant in this program. I cannot believe the support system that Beachbody has created here. I am proud to be a part of this great team. I am glad that I found David on the Internet and was inspired to not give up by him. I have spoken to him on the phone and he wanted to learn about me, he wanted to learn what my goals are. He also provided me with invaluable information and answered all of my questions. I couldn’t have done this without his help and support!!!
My support group was there for me to answer questions and offer encouragement. I also knew that I had a team to be accountable to everyday. If I would have missed a day it would have made me feel like I let the team and myself down. Having that extra support goes a long way when you are trying to reach your goals. Especially if your goals are very challenging!
What advice would give to someone who’s considering joining a challenge?
Everywhere I go people ask me what I did. What did I do to change my body so much? What did I do to look so much younger and more energetic? I am very happy to tell them that Beachbody saved my life and it can save your life too. I feel so much better, the chest pains are gone, the body pains are gone. I had plantar fasciitis, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea and many other ailments you get when you are overweight. ALL of these things are clearing up. My feet do not hurt anymore, my blood pressure is way down, my sleep apnea has improved, I have more energy and I can climb stairs without getting winded or tightening in the chest. I am also very proud of the fact that I quit drinking. I come from a family with several alcoholics and I too was on my way to being an alcoholic if I wasn’t one already.

They want me to tell them, that I found a pill or something easy to get in better shape.
